Biography

Elisabeth Espinosa serves as a Miami-Dade County Court Judge, currently assigned to the domestic violence division. Judge Espinosa presides over civil domestic violence injunction cases, as well as criminal misdemeanor domestic violence cases. As a Judge in the criminal division, she has been presiding over jury trials since March of 2021.

Judge Espinosa was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy. She then graduated from the University of Florida with honors, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Literature. Judge Espinosa is the daughter and granddaughter of Cuban immigrants and went on to become the first attorney in her family, earning her law degree from Stetson University College of Law.

Judge Espinosa began her legal career in public service, serving as a prosecutor for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office in Tampa, Florida, for 6 years. As a prosecutor she served in the Felony, Misdemeanor, and Juvenile divisions and tried 73 jury trials and 67 bench trials. In 2014, Judge Espinosa returned home to Miami and practiced as a civil litigator for a large law firm for 6 years. During that time, she also served as a Guardian Ad Litem to children involved in litigation in Family Court and Domestic Violence Court.

On December 16, 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Espinosa to the Miami-Dade County Court. In addition to her work on the bench, Judge Espinosa hosts and mentors student interns from high school, college, and law school, and has also served as a guest coach for Our Lady of Lourdes Academy’s mock trial team. Judge Espinosa has participated in various speaking engagements addressing students at Miami-Dade Schools, addressing attorneys discussing domestic violence court and guardian ad litem opportunities, and addressing survivors of domestic violence at the 2021 To Live Again conference. Judge Espinosa has also had the opportunity to author an article for the KidSide Newsletter based upon her experience and perspective presiding over domestic violence cases. Judge Espinosa is committed to her work as a jurist and looks forward to continuing to serve the people of Miami-Dade County with the same dedication and passion she has demonstrated since joining the judiciary.
